The NASA Ames Research Center Vertical Motion Simulator is the largest flight simulator in the world. It has been used for the development and testing of several flight control concepts, evaluating flight vehicles and training pilots for specialised operations.
The vertical motion of 20 m, lateral motion of 12 m and longitudinal motion of 2.4 m are augmented by a three-axis rotational gimbal. NASA sought an integrated solution that would improve performance and reduce the maintenance burden. IDT’s specialists developed a unique motion capability utilising an advanced asymmetric hexapod system.
