If it moves, we can simulate it
IDT is a leading provider of specialized flight training solutions aimed at enhancing pilot competencies. Having created the requirements for several global training initiatives through ICAO, IDT is called upon by major airlines and Civil Aviation Authorities to provide objective and sound training and technology solutions.
IDT has in-house expertise in several areas, including:
• Upset Prevention and Recovery Training for flight crews (UPRT.aero)
• Final Approach Standardisation Training (FAST)
• Implementation of Competence Based Training (CBT)
• Mobile IOS tools for monitoring and instruction
• Startle management training for flight crews
The IDT team has been developing “upset recovery” requirements since 2002. In 2009, Dr. Advani chaired a Royal Aeronautical Society conference in London called “Flight Simulation” Towards the Edge of the Envelope”, where the concept of UPRT was launched. The ICATEE (International Committee for Aviation Training in Extended Envelopes) committee was formed immediately following this conference, and was supported by ICAO to develop the requirements for UPRT globally. IDT chaired and guided ICATEE and saw the submission of the content of the Manual on aeroplane UPRT to ICAO on 17 December 2013.
IDT has developed UPRT programs and tools for some of the major airlines around the world. We continue to fine tune what they have embedded into their programs. Furthermore, our experts have trained authorities on how to accredit and qualify UPRT Programs. We provide to various NAA’s workshops and courses on UPRT best practices.

The underlying principles of IDT’s training are developing the pilot’s awareness of the energy state, angle of attack, and operation of the flight controls of the particular airplane. The focus lies on recognising situations that could lead to upsets as early as possible. Emphasis is placed on instructor-led exploration and practice in conjunction with the airplane manufacturer’s guidance.
