DLR AVES flight simulator

The German Aerospace Centre DLR required a full flight simulator facility combining a fixed-wing Airbus A320, and a Eurocopter EC135, in a single device. IDT developed the design of AVES, which was detailed and realised by Rheinmetall Defence Electronics. The challenging technical and operational requirements were achieved through our innovative systems design process.

DriverLab Driving Simulation

Driverlab

DriverLab is the world’s first simulator developed for the assessment of elderly and challenged drivers. It is part of the iDapt facility and Challenging Environment Assessment Lab (CEAL), developed by IDT. The purpose of DriverLab is to identify the safety risks associated with varying levels of physical and cognitive function and decline as persons age.

IDT’s principal developed the design of the SIMONA simulator and its facility, interacting with multiple teams of researchers and engineers, as well as building architects. The end result is a simulator capability like no other, where researchers of all levels are able to utilise the device to carry out unique objectives.

The Challenging Environment Assessment Laboratory (CEAL) facility was developed under the guidance of IDT, who served as Integration Manager. The specifications of each major system, sub-system and several detailed pieces of equipment were created by IDT. Avion Flight Simulation

Avion Full Flight Simulator

IDT has supported the Avion Group in implementing UPRT capabilities into its Full Flight Simulators. The Avion Group, based in the Netherlands, provides a unique flight simulator that integrates all the systems on board. The high-bandwidth full motion simulator is used for pilot training of the A320 or the Boeing 737.

Skypointer Ipad Application

IDT has developed Skypointer™, the Upset Prevention and Recovery Training for the iPad. While based on the ICAO industry-standard Airplane Upset Prevention & Recovery Training Aid (AUPRTA), Skypointer™ also reviews relevant loss-of-control incidents and accidents, and includes practical knowledge for pilots on UPRT airmanship.

FSI, engaged IDT to analyse and enhance the motion cueing capability of its fixed-wing and rotary-wing flight simulators. Through the integration of the OMCT into the test software, and by performing motion tuning with objective constraints, the devices were enhanced significantly. These improvements were shown on objective tests and through pilot evaluations.

BMW Driving Simulation

BMW Dynamic Driving Simulator

Over the course of two years, an impressive simulator was built, utilising a carbon-fibre dome mounted on an electric motion system. This simulator, developed under the leadership of Dr. Sunjoo Advani, became BMW’s first exposure to high-fidelity driving simulators. It continues to be utilised for driver-vehicle systems design and assessments.

CoperSafety engaged IDT to perform a detailed analysis of its flight simulators, including the comparison with the ICAO Objective Motion Cueing Test, developed by IDT and AMS Consult. The results have led to significant enhancements to the CopterSafety motion cueing capabilities in their devices.

IDT provides MPS with the technology to incorporate UPRT capabilities into its product line. With the IOS features and type-specific lesson plans developed by IDT, MPS is able to offer a unique UPRT capability at an attractive price.

When Mitsubishi Aircraft launched its Mitsubishi Regional Jet (recently renamed “Spacejet”), it was a major boost for the Japanese aviation industry as it represented the first indigenous commercial aircraft of its kind.

Driving Simulation University of Leeds

University of Leeds Driving Simulator

The result of an unconventional process led to the University of Leeds Driving Simulator, co-ordinated by IDT. The project was realised on a budget within the finances available to the university, and with the involvement of the skilled internal staff, a complete system was achieved. Creativity can benefit from a tenacious specification of the outcome!

ProSim

ProSim sought the expertise of IDT to assess and enhance its products. One of these enhancements has been the integration of the UPRight UPRT Instructor Operator Station features into the ProSim flight simulator.

Upright™

UPRight is a Universal Simulator-Feedback Tool. The IDT UPRight feedback tool easily integrates with most flight simulators to provide a true representation of critical flight parameters presented in a pilot-friendly manner. The simulator settings, control inputs, flight envelope and simulator envelope are clearly presented on the display.

Prorail

ProRail is responsible for the railway network in the Netherlands. One of the challenges of ProRail has been to adjust its strategy to accommodate the ever-increasing demand for punctuality. IDT developed a “Railway Simulation Roadmap”, which objectively defines the technical specification based on the research questions.

Scania approached IDT to define the requirements for future simulation capability. On the basis of specific research questions related to the safety of the vehicle, pedestrians and other road users, a structured road map was created.

Aviation Training EASA

EASA

With the incorporation of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training throughout the aviation industry, EASA required support in bringing about rules and guidance material. IDT served EASA as a core member of the FCL committee under Rule Making Task .0581 & .0582 on UPRT implementation.

Through the Royal Aeronautical Society, ICAO initiated an International Working Group to revise and harmonise the simulator standards applied by the many National Aviation Authorities around the world. IDT supported that process by creating the Objective Motion Cueing Test for flight simulators.
